Perception of Reality

We go about our everyday lives oblivious to what's happening in our minds. We get so caught up in the doing of things that we forget about taking conscious control of our destiny. We live our lives on autopilot so to speak.

When I was growing up, no-one ever told me that I could create my own destiny or that thoughts became things. I always believed that we were a victim of circumstance and to cross our fingers and hope that things turned out for the best. I was taught that life was hard and to suck it up. So I lived my life without purpose or intention. Like a row boat on the ocean with no oars and just hoped for the best.

My life had lots of ups and downs along my journey. I was judgmental, opinionated, skeptical and negative because that was what I was taught. I didn't feel worthy or even loveable. I did not know the difference between a designed life or one by default. Nor did I realise that anything COULDbe different. This was just like it is and this was just 'how I was'.

When you believe in yourself, the universe opens up to show you what’s possible.

The Hidden Truth

It wasn't until I was in my late thirties did I get an incling of the power of thoughts. I consider myself so lucky that I was a stay at home mum which ultimately was the cause for great change. Let me explain. My favourite time of the day was 1pm. Five days a week at this exact time, my trusted companion appeared for me without fail and without doubt. This trusted friend started to open my eyes and ears to new concepts of being, of believing, of seeing, of thinking. It was incredible. I remember thinking 'how do I not know this? How come no-one ever taught me this! I felt as though I had been ripped off. Each day at 1pm I was geared up for the new revalations that I was going to be exposed to that day. I was filled with the excitement of expecation of seeing things differently. Of feeling the hope of change.

Finally, some truth was flowing through my screen as I watched the Oprah Show each day. This was my trusted friend and constant source of inspiration.

I was exposed to new age thinkers like Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, Gary Zukav, Cheryl Richardson, Dr. John Gray, Jack Canfield, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and so many more. It truly was my saving grace and so this is where my transformational journey started. I finally became aware that how I thought played a much bigger role than I was even aware of.

The Key To Change

Did you know that we have around 60,000 thoughts every day! It's mind boggling. Don't you think? No wonder we're all confused, anxious, on edge, unhappy, and dependent on external stimuli to help us relax. Alcohol, drugs, television, gossip and sex just to name a few. But did you know that the way you think creates your reality?

Okay. So now what? Now that we know this, what is the solution?

Affirmations.

So what is an affirmation?

A powerful, present tense statement of what you want changed in your life.

Our brain is hardwired with neuro networks of past thinking. This thinking has created the life you now know as your own. It's the internal world reflected on the outside world otherwise known as 'your life'. It's your creation. However most of us are not aware of that and live in a state of blame. Once you realise this and are open to this new way of thinking. everything changes and personal empowerment begins!

How To Create An Affirmation

Creating positive affirmations is reversing the negative thinking that you currently have. For example; if you say to yourself on a consistent basis, 'I hate my body' then you are actually attracting more reasons to experience that you do hate your body. If you say, 'I am so sick of always being broke' then you are attracting more of that experience in your life. They are powerful statements as if YOU ALREADY HAVE WHAT YOU DESIRE.

Affirmations are simply statements that you keep making about yourself and your life either spoken or through thought. Unfortunately, most of them are negative. So let's look at how we can shift that.

To create an affirmation, write down the areas you wish to create change in your life. The most popular categories are, financial, self esteem, health, weight, career and relationships. Look at what you are not happy with within these categories and write what you are currently experiencing. What are your current problems?

For example 'I am tired of having no money', becomes 'money flows to me abundantly' or 'I always have enough money to meet my needs in every moment'.

Lets look at some categories to help you start to get the idea.

FINANCES

  • Money comes to me easily

  • I always have enough money

  • I am abundant

  • I am a money magnet

CAREER

  • I love what I do and get paid really well

  • I enjoy working with creative loving people

  • I have my dream job

  • I am so grateful for my perfect job

HEALTH

  • My body is vibrant filled with lots of energy

  • I am my perfect and ideal weight

  • I love what I see each time I look in the mirror

  • I enjoy perfect health

Get the idea? Awesome!! Now put on some relaxation music. Grab a pen, paper, an open mind and start writing down what you want changed. Then take those statements and create your affirmations. Give yourself about an hour of uninterupted SELF time. You are worthy of this.

Love yourself enough to do this!

Creating the life you want starts with knowing what it is you want.

How To Use Affirmations

Awesome!! Now that you have identified what you don't want and have translated those into affiramtions, you're ready to start using them. What I love to do is record my own voice using my smart phone voice recorder while playing relaxation music in the background and record myelf reading my affirmations slowly, with intention and purpose in a positive voice. Then I listen to my recording first thing in the morning and last thing at night, DAILY!

You can also read your affirmations while you look in the mirror which is a very powerful technique also.

My greatest teacher for affirmations was Louise Hay.

There are many resources to help you on this transformational journey. Two of my favourity are Louise Hay's movie, You Can Heal Your Life and her book also titled the same.

Remember, repitition is key!
